For the last two years I have chosen “one little word” to focus on throughout the year. This concept was originated by well-known scrapbooker Ali Edwards as a way to focus on one word as a theme in the new year as opposed to a “Resolution” that will be forgotten in February.
The first year I participated in One Little Word, I chose the word “Enjoy” and it was good to have that as my focus because we went through two moves that year and I really wanted to be reminded to enjoy our moments together
Last year I chose the word “Dare” and it really made an impact on my life. I really thought through ways to be brave and daring because of that word. I applied for creative teams that I never would have and really reaped some wonderful benefits from focusing on the word dare through 2014.
I’m thrilled to announce the word that I have chosen for 2015: Steadfast.
I’m excited about the ways this word is going to be used in my life.
I’m excited about the possibilities that focusing on this word is going to bring.
I started out by thinking of “steady” because one thing I want to become is more steady and consistent in really all areas of my life. I’m good at starting projects and being really excited about them in the beginning, but not always following through.
Steady was a good start, but I also wanted a word that was more faith-based, that I could look up in scripture and study. So, I pulled out my Bible and turned to the concordance in the back to find a word similar in meaning to “steady”.
Steadfast is where I landed and more and more I know that this is the word God has for me this year.
I signed up for Ali Edwards’ One Little Word class, which is a year-long class with monthly challenges and prompts to really reap meaning from and dig into your word. I’m so excited about exploring this word and growing in my faith as I do.
By focusing on being STEADFAST in 2015 I want to
display steadfast love in all of my relationships…
in my relationship with Christ
in my relationship with my husband, Keith
in my relationship with my children
in my relationships with extended family
and in my relationships with friends
display steadfastness in striving to be intentional with goal setting each month
display steadfastness in reading and studying the Bible by reading through the Bible this year
display steadfastness in my projects and commitments.
I want to be a steadfast friend.
I want to be a steadfast wife.
I want to be a steadfast mother.
Steadfastness isn’t going to be easy…it is going to be challenging to remain steady and unchanging as obstacles come my way.
I’m looking forward to the challenges.
I’m looking forward to the growth that comes from those challenges.
I also am looking forward to sharing more with you about this word and my journey this year.
One thing I always do after I’ve settled on a word is to create a pinterest board for that word. I’ll be adding to this board and sharing inspiration from it as well. I invite you to follow this board and be inspired by all that is there!
What does “steadfast” mean to you?
Have you chosen a word to focus on in the coming year? I’d love for you to share yours in the comments!

I love your word! Steadfast to me means to remain steady, unmoving, unwavering in the face of both good times and bad. God brought a word to me for 2015 that is more of a “lesson to be learned” that it will be a joy to walk out. It’s “content” and I will be sharing a post about it in the morning. Happy New Year!

Thank you, Barbie! I love the word you’ve chosen. Learning to be content is challenging, but loaded with lots of rewards. I can’t wait to read your post in the morning. Happy New Year to you!
