I had such a fun day filled with friendship, shopping and decorating.
The events of today have been anxiously awaited for the last two weeks. I’ve been looking forward to it ever since a friend sent me an advertisement about the warehouse sale at Schoolhouse Antiques.
I really enjoy antique shopping. REALLY enjoy antique shopping. And I really don’t have to buy anything to enjoy it. I can just walk around and look at the antiques for hours. I just wish I knew more about them to really appreciate it more.
Schoolhouse Antiques was at the last Bazzar here and I LOVED their merchandise. The only problem was that it was really expensive.
At our unit’s last coffee, I was told never to buy from them at a Bazzar because they mark everything down 20% when you buy at their warehouse, which is only open to the public a few times a year. The very next week I learned that a sale was coming up and their warehouse would be open this weekend….my birthday weekend. So, I began planning a special day for myself.
I booked the kids…all three of them…to spend the day in hourly care at our Child Development Center on post. And my friend, Carol, took the day off of work to go with me.
We pulled up to the schoolhouse just a few minutes after they opened and customers were already getting started. There were 34 rooms of furniture on three floors in this old German schoolhouse. It was HUGE!
Carol and I spent two hours walking around browsing through all they had. There were so many neat things that I was just a bit overwhelmed.
So, here’s to the question I know you’re all asking….
Yes, I bought just one item. Oh, I was tempted to get much more, but I was a good girl today and limited myself to one very cute item that I knew I could use. It’s a wall hanging with a chalk board and a cute American flag painted on it.
I found the perfect spot for it above Keith’s writing desk as soon as I brought it in.
See, isn’t it adorable?? I’m thinking it could use some tassels from The Nesting Place…I LOVE THEM!
Carol and I were able to have a leisurely lunch at Zum Stern, a local German restaurant. I had the best French Onion Soup ever!
When I got home I had an hour before I had to pick the kids up from childcare. I took advantage of that time by hanging my new prize and my new curtains that just arrived in the mail two days ago.
I haven’t been in love with a pair of panels like I am with these before. I got them from Piper Classics, whose shipping was incredible!
It was such a fun day for me! And I think I’ve been bit by a decorating bug.
I’m thinking a cleaning bug needs to bite tomorrow, though!

Happy belated birthday! I will have to check that out sometime (I have a birthday this month-maybe that will be a good excuse).
It looks like a fun place!
I worked on the bazaar committee while I was in the UK. I hate that vendors raise their prices for a bazaar, but they are charged about 14% by the spouses’ group, or 20% by Aafes of their sales. The spouses groups then donate that to charity.

It looks like you had a great time. I love Germany and try to go every year.
Last year in Munich. I have a question, is the large schoolhouse you visited
the one that was used as a prison camp for U.S. soldiers during the II world
war? The reason I wanted to know was my father was a prisoner there when he was captured. Thank you.
