I pray with the girls every night after I read them their bedtime story. I am trying to be more specific in my prayers (they usually consist mostly of the petition that they will fall asleep quickly and stay asleep!) and incorporate prayers for others as well.
Mary Catherine likes for me to hold her and pray over her. I tried teaching them the Lord’s Prayer during this time, but Mary Catherine is very insistent that I must “Pray for Mary Catherine” before she can go to sleep.
Elizabeth Anne loves this time of cuddling and praying. Over the last week she has asked to pray by herself. So, we bow our heads and fold our hands together while sitting on her bed and she prays. Her prayers are so simple, sweet, and heartfelt.
This is what I could remember of tonight’s prayer. I am writing it here because this has become the place where I keep most of their memories and I don’t want to forget this precious time with her.
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for this day. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for spanking us. Thank you for helping us. Thank you for all our friends. Thank you for our friend Luke and our friend Mindy and our friend Baby Will. Thank your for our family. Thank you for our playgroup. Thank you for sometimes we go to playgroup today. Thank you for the rain. Thank you for all the houses. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for Mary Catherine and Will and Me and Mommy and Daddy. Thank you for Daddy in Iraq telling people ’bout Jesus. And thank you for spanking us. And thank you for loving us.
In Jesus name,
Amen
Just two notes here… (1) I really don’t spank them that much, but isn’t it cool that she can thank Jesus for those spankings and (2) I love that she thanks Jesus for all the houses when sometimes all her Mommy can do it complain about them!
After this sweet prayer, she gives me a hug, kiss, and a nose and says “Mommy, check on me, okay?”

That is truly sweet. I know it blessed your heart and I can only imagine how much more it melts our Lord Jesus’ heart to hear His little ones praying to Him. Keep up the great work mothering your children and teaching them to walk in the ways of the Lord.
