I keep all of my children’s little plastic drinking cups in the cabinet above the dishwasher. They’re stacked one inside the other.
There is one cup that doesn’t fit the way it looks like it should.
Almost every time I’m stacking cups inside each other from the dishwasher, I get this one cup wrong.
And as I do I think to myself, “when I get to this cup, I need to think backwards”.
I’ve been getting it right more often.
By doing that one thing…thinking backwards.
Our walk of faith is often the same.
To prosper and grow, we need to think about things backwards.
Jesus said, “the last will be first”.
That’s backwards thinking to our selfish minds that race to always be first…the first will be first.
Jesus said, “give and you shall receive”.
That’s backwards thinking to our selfish minds who want, want, want to forever be on the receiving end.
Jesus said, “have faith like a child”.
That’s backwards thinking to our superior minds who think we should always be teaching and training our children rather than learning from them.
Jesus said, “let the little children come to me”.
That’s backwards thinking to our selfish desire to shoo the children away so we can have our own time of worship apart from them.
Backwards thinking.
Backwards living this faith walk is often a rewarding struggle.
This post was written for 5 Minute Friday, hosted by The Gypsy Mama.
For 5 Minute Friday the rules are simple:
1. Write for 5 minutes flat for pure unedited love of the written word.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. Get a little crazy with encouragement for the five minuter who linked up before you.

I really liked your comment on learning from our kids rather than always teaching and training them. It’s the moment of silence in the music of parenting (haha!) that we need to remember.
