This weekend Keith pulled out an old, dinosaur laptop that we had sitting around and began tinkering around with it. He was eventually able to get it to connect to our wireless network.
I was very impressed because I would have gave up on the effort long before he did. Preserverence is a very admirable quality.
He worked so hard because he thought it would be a good idea for me to be able to access the internet from a small laptop set up in the kitchen. We placed it on the counter and I have to admit it did feel pretty cool to have such a tech savvy kitchen set-up. Now I can look up recipes and read blogs as I’m preparing dinner.
I used my new set up to aid in my dinner preparations on Saturday night.
We had bratwurst and cottage fried potatoes.
Cottage potatoes are my absolute favorite way to fix potatoes. They are quick, easy, and oh, so yummy!!
Ingredients: 3 tablespoons butter, 3 med. potatoes, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, and 1 onion, thinly sliced and separated into rings
In a large skillet melt butter.
Layer sliced potatoes in skillet. Sprinkle with salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Cook, covered, over medium heat for 8 minutes.
Add onion rings. Cook, uncovered, for 8 to 10 minutes more or until potatoes are tender and browned, turning frequently.
Sorry….I don’t have pictures of the end product. We were so eager to eat our meal that I didn’t have a moment to stop and capture it.
The girls just raved and raved about this meal. I love to hear “thank you Mommy for this good dinner” as we are eating. I heart it so much from them on this night that I told MC that if she had her way, Mommy would stay in the kitchen cooking all the time.
Setting up the kitchen computer and using it to aid in dinner preparations became my tacke this week.

Ah … my dream kitchen. All of the recipes on the computer with a wirelss connection to access EVERYTHING from the kitchen. Throw in one of those fold-down screens that stores under the cabinets when not in use and I’d be set. Some day. 🙂 Glad you have the new set-up. Enjoy!

Congrats on your new set up. I find that I now look up more recipes on line than in my cook book!
BTW I wanted to say I love getting to see your face more now that Keith is home to snap pics and I love your new pics updated in your scrolling photos on the side bar! They are great!

I am a little envious of your counter space that you can do that and the potatoes look great!

Warning: A laptop in the kitchen can lead to some very burned meals. 🙂 Trust me. I know. If I get caught up in blog reading, I can easily forget about what I’m supposed to be cooking. It is great having the portability, though! I love my laptop. That’s so sweet of your hubby to do all that for you!! I think you got a keeper.
