We spent Saturday afternoon playing games with the kids.
After some research, we decided on some games to add to our collection that would be good for the ages of our children. Keith went out during lunch and picked up a couple of them.
During Will’s quiet time, Keith taught EA and MC how to play Connect Four. They caught on fairly quickly and even learned a bit of strategy. Our biggest hurdle was teaching them to take turns.
This is a game that they will be able to play themselves.
We also played some Monopoly Junior with the girls. It was a bit more involved so we weren’t able to finish a complete games, but they seemed to be enjoying it.
Then after quiet time was over, Will joined the girls for a game of Candy Land. This was his first time playing and he did really well. I was ready to pull my hair out in frustration when the girls played for the first time. Will understood the concept of following the path which took a bit for the girls to learn when they began playing.
Candy Land is my favorite game to play with my children.
Some other favorites for their age range are…
Scrabble Junior (ages 5-8)
Chutes and Ladders (ages 3 & up)
Memory (ages 3 & up)
Hi-Ho Cherry-O (ages 3-6)
Do you have some favorite games that you enjoy playing with your children?

I almost put Sorry in my cart today. I LOVED that game as a kid. I don’t play nearly enough board games with the girls. We are going to play UNO tonight, so we need to start family game night with the kids.

UNO is a fav at our house… My 3yr old loves Pretty, Pretty Princess. I must confess Candy Land and Shutes and Ladders drive me crazy… I do like Hi Ho Cherry-O. Totally forgot about Sorry and Connect 4… gotta add those to our collection!

I loved Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders. I also like Go Fish with playing cards. Trouble with the popamatic dice was fun too.

My daughter LOVEs Candy Land … well, her version of it, that is (just turned 2)! Though we don’t play exactly by the rules (yet), it is still a fun way for her to practice her colors and counting and learn about taking turns!
–Stopped in from TILT! 🙂
