The girls have just been absorbing the Christmas story this year. It has made for some interesting discussions.
There is one discussion that takes place every single time that I ask them about the birth of our Lord.
Me: Who’s birthday do we celebrate on Christmas?
EA/MC: Baby Jesus
Me: Yes, who was his mommy?
EA/MC: Mary
Me: Right! Who was his daddy?
EA/MC: God
Me: Yes, but what about his other daddy?
EA/MC: (sometimes after some prodding) Joseph
In the same stories that they hear of Mary and Joseph having Baby Jesus in a stable because there was no room for them in the inn, Jesus is referred to as God’s son. I think it is wonderful that the girls have noticed that detail and name God has being Jesus’ daddy.
A couple of weeks ago we heard a sermon about Joseph being the forgotten character in the Christmas story. I guess this can be another example of that.
