Here is a snippet of a conversation that happens quite often around here.
MC: “Mommy”
Me: “What?”
long pause
MC: “I love you, Mommy”
Me: “I love you, too. Is that all or do you want something?”
MC: “No, that’s all.”
Did you get that?
That’s all.
Just I love you. Nothing more than that.
I love you.
No strings attached, no and will you do this for me, nothing added at all.
The gift of a simple, sweet declaration of love, from daughter to mother is a great blessing.
It is a blessing that I don’t always see.
Way too often, I’m busy looking for the extra. Looking for the rest of the statement to follow. Looking for the demand.
What a blessing it is to know that that’s all there is.
“I Love You” is such an amazing gift from my daughter.
It is a gift that I have also received from my Father in Heaven.
He loves me the same.
He loved me enough to send His Son to die in my place, while I was still a sinner.
He loved me. He gave for me out of a love that I will never truly understand or ever completely fathom.
He loves me.
His gift of love reminds me that everything I have is a gift.
A gift that I am undeserving of.
A gift that I am humbled by.
A gift that I am thankful for.
This week I am counting these gifts among many…
344. Just I love you!
345. baby sleeping in
346. pirate pajamas
347. colored coke glasses
348. toys laying around the house in random places
349. Jenny’s head laying on her daddy’s shoulder
350. church, Sunday School, learning, growing, praying, fellowshipping
351. surprising my girls with Disney on Ice…the looks of awe on their faces
352. a neighbor coming by with cookies
353. watching Tinkerbell with them…”Mommy will you sit beside me? I like sitting with you.”
Carrie says
I love those pirate pajamas! And I wholeheartedly agree – hearing those beautiful words from the mouths of our children; definitely a melting moment.
