For the past several days our home has been marked by a battle of wills.
When my children are tired and and overstimulated, their little bodies act out. They don’t know how to control their strained emotions and often they become angry and upset without the ability to fully articulate why or what is going on.
Really, I’m not so different myself.
We’re all pretty tired from a fun weekend of activity, so I knew that starting school on good footing would be hard this morning.
But I forged ahead.
And I was met with a battle of epic proportions (yes, that is a bit over dramatized, but it was oh, so fun to write).
After taking a break to regroup, apologizing to everyone, extending forgiveness and giving hugs and kisses, we took a deep breath and started over fresh.
As my daughter was working on her handwriting assignment, copying a verse of scripture, she asked, “Mommy when I’m done can we tear this page out and hang it up so I can memorize this verse. I think I need to memorize it. That would really help me.”
I looked at her paper and found that she was copying Mark 9:50, “Live in peace with each other.”
I affirmed that yes, we would definitely hang that up because not only does she need to memorize that verse, but we all do.
We all need to memorize it, hide it in our hearts and live it out.
I need to strive to live in peace with my husband, with my children, with my friends and with my family.
I need to dwell on this verse today.
Maybe you do too…

That was our verse for June. It probably should be our verse every month… the boys and I have our own epic battles..
