Several years ago, actually a year before I became pregnant with my girls, I went through the Weight Watchers program to lose weight. And it worked! I lost around twenty-three pounds following their system, which is a lot for a small 5 foot 2 girl like me.
I did the whole thing, setting weight loss goals, attending the meetings, writing down my points, keeping up throughout the maintenance phase and I eventually became a Lifetime Member. I do count this as one of my greatest accomplishments, even though I am quite far from what was then my goal weight.
Through the process I learned so much. I learned how to eat, how to balance my meal portions, how to set and achieve goals, how to motivate and encourage, and so much more.
I also gained a huge admiration for the Weight Watchers company. They promote a practical and healthy way of losing and maintaining a healthy weight. There was one time when I was in the maintenance phase that I became very close to the minimun weight for my height (believe me, I’m no where near that now) but the counselor cautioned me against that. That was impressive. And when I became pregnant, I dropped into let them know that I wouldn’t be back to check my weight and to ask how their after pregnanty program worked. They basically said, “what are you doing here now??” That was impressive to me.
Now Weight Watchers is doing something even more impressive on a national level to fight hunger.
They are donating one million dollars to help fight hunger, splitting the donation between Share Our Strength and Action Against Hunger. Last year, their campaign impacted more than 250,000 children and families domestically and it actually represented the difference between life and death for more than 6,000 malnourished children abroad.
This year, you have the opportunity to increase their donation by $25,000 through Lose-A-Palooza.
Lose-A-Palooza is a one-day online social networking event taking place today, September 15, 2009 to help raise awareness for the Lose For Good™ campaign! Great to know! I’ll be sure to do some tweeting & follows today! I’m a current WW member and have had great success with them in the past. I do think they have an excellent program that focuses more on changing over to healthy eating and exercise rather than a diet.
