When I last donned my “Army Issued Wife” t-shirt and blogged about getting ready for our move, I had no idea it would be two weeks until I would be able to post again.
A lot has happened in these two weeks.
Our entire house was packed up in two days. We were told it would take four.
We made hotel reservations and driving plans thinking it would take four, so we arranged to keep beds in our house until the end of the week when we could move into a hotel.
We’re still living in a hotel and it’s getting very old.
Our girls sang in a musical at church and we said goodbye to friends there. It was a sad and emotional day for me.
We made the long drive from Virginia to South Carolina last Monday and began looking for a home on Tuesday.
There was no housing available on post, so we began looking for a rental for the six months that we will be here.
After two days of looking, we found a wonderful home that I know we’re going to enjoy so much!
Right now, we’re just waiting for Thursday when our belongings will be delivered to our new home. Because June is such a busy month for Army moves, it took over a week to get that scheduled.
I’m so looking forward to getting back into a normal routine.
We’re all tired exhausted.
Someone commented to me on our last day of Sunday School that we are probably used to moving so much. I’ll expound on this in another post, but let me just tell you, NO, we do not just get used to this.
I don’t think I will ever get used to the hardship of turning our lives completely upside down and living in transition for weeks as we work our way through a move.
But, while I know that I will never get used to it, I will continue to do it and make the very best of it that I can for my husband and for my children because this is what we have been called to do.
We have been called to serve and minister to soldiers in the Army.
My husband is an excellent chaplain. He has a heart for his soldiers. He has a passion to share the love of Jesus and the hope that only He can give with them. There is no doubt in my mind that God has placed him here and he is making a great impact.
I am called to serve alongside my husband and to encourage him as he serves.
I am also called to care for our children and to nurture them. I want them to see the reasons why we are doing what we’re doing. We’re not just moving because the Army told us to. We are doing this because we are called to do so.
Our lives are so much more than a series of decisions made void of mission and purpose.
Everything we do serves a purpose and a mission to serve God and to do His will in this world. I want my children to see that.
Even as we are tired of the moving that we will never get used to, I want them to see that there is a purpose in it.

Even though I’ve only been through one move (although it was to Okinawa in April), I feel your pain! Moving and being displaced while in between homes is hard.

So glad you were able to give us an update. I can’t imagine anybody getting used to moving that much! Hope you all can get some rest and get settled soon.

I cannot imagine moving continuously throughout my life. But I am so thankful for those who God has called to minister to those serving our country. It’s a high calling and so needed. May the Lord continue to bless you, your husband and your children as you serve Him!
