I nervously gave the guy that talked to me every Sunday after church my phone number.
Giving out my phone number wasn’t something that I did everyday, so I was a little anxious about wheather I should have. And why I didn’t get an immediate phone call.
I even lamented this concern to a friend…probably the only friend that knew I gave Keith my phone number.
I wondered every time I saw him over the next weeks why I hadn’t heard anything….
Did I offend him when I told him I was busy?
Was a wearing a hideous outfit the last time I saw him?
Was it all just a bad joke?
Was there something wrong with my phone?
So, after three weeks of anticipation, I my phone rang and Keith was on the other end!!!!!
He apologized for not calling sooner, saying he had filed my phone number away and couldn’t find it.
I remember saying, “What??” and wondering how many other phone numbers he had filed away… What he meant was that he had put it in a pile on his desk and it took him three weeks to find it in the midst of the pile.
I quickly forgave him!
We had a great conversation that ended with me being asked out on my first date with Keith.
He was in the Kentucky National Guard at the time and traveled from South Carolina to Kentucky once a month for drill weekends. The upcoming weekend was one of those, so we made plans to meet for breakfast early Friday morning on his way to Kentucky.
I remember being so anxious before this first date.
What should I wear???
What would we talk about???
What will I eat???????
We met at Cracker Barrel and had a wonderful time. I remember exactly what I wore, some of what we talked about, and nothing of what I ate. Maybe I was so nervous that I didn’t eat????
When we parted ways, he said that he would try to call over the weekend.
I was so surprised when I had a phone call exactly eight hours later….the time it took him to travel to Kentucky.
And the rest is pretty much history!!!!
Check back in tomorrow to hear all about our engagement story…It’s my favorite to tell!
And check out the SWAK carnival at We Are THAT Family.

This is so sweet! I’m glad he finally found your number to call you! I think you should tell this story to your children as a bedtime story so they can remember this as they grow up.
