This is School Room Week at the Not Back to School Blog Hop.
When we were moving back to the states from Germany and looking for houses to rent, we did so with homeschooling in mind. The garage in our house was converted into a small apartment years ago, which sounded perfect for our homeschooling needs!
We use the bedroom area of the apartment as a guest room and the living room area is our school room.
My biggest and most daunting task for getting ready for this school year is to get this room ready.
We used it last year, so the basic set-up is there, but lots of organization to prepare for a new year needs to be done.
I keep all of our curriculum on a large bookshelf within easy reach.
We have another set of cubicles that house all of our picture and board books. We have so many! I also keep some workbooks, coloring books, school supplies, and craft supplies in these cubicles.
Above the cubicles is our calendar area.
I have a small desk to keep my lesson plans and materials for each day organized.
We also have a large cabinet where games and puzzles are housed.
Last year the girls worked at a table that was just big enough for the two of them. This year, we found a small preschool-sized desk for Will to use and I’ve ordered two desks for the girls which should arrive in a few weeks. I’m hoping that this works better for us than the table did.
We’ll also be using our comfy living room and/or sun room couch for read-alouds, which we do a lot of!

The idea of a converted garage apartment sounds heavenly… Although I think hubby would disagree; he rather needs a garage to be a garage.
Anyway, this was interesting to read, but I missed pictures. I’m too visual in nature I suppose. Thank you for sharing on the NOT Back-to-School blog hop.

Thanks for your comment.
It was converted to an apartment before we moved in…I doubt we would do that ourselves, but it has been nice to have.
You’re right about the pictures. I’m pretty visual, too. I’ll be updating and adding picture of our school room during my kids’ quiet time today.
Thanks for visiting!

Hi! I am stopping by from Hip Homeschool Hop. I “liked” your facebook page and now following you on twitter and through Network Blogs! I like your idea of having a calendar in your school room. I really need to incorporate that. Thanks for the idea!
I will come back and see more soon. I have grabbed your button as well. I have one too if you want to swap 🙂 Have a blessed day!
