Week of September 5-9, 2011
In my life this week…
I started FAITH Evangelism training at church and I also started a new digital scrapbooking class at Big Picture Classes.
In our homeschool this week…
We began a new science curriculum this week. I stitched to Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Astronomy and I really, really love it! I love the focus on Bible and creation that’s weaved within science. It is setting such a solid foundation for my children. The girls are excited about learning about the planets and stars. EA and MC had fun coming up with a mnemonic for remembering the order of the planets.
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
Have activities (play dough, puzzles, etc.) available for preschool siblings to play with during school time. They can play with those in the school room and hear the lessons without being a distraction.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Next week the girls start their dance class (ballet & tap) and Will and the girls start a new year of AWANA at church. We’re all looking forward to the new activities!!
My favorite thing this week was…
Singing “Old McDonald Had a Farm A-E-I-O-U” with Will.
What’s working/not working for us…
We started a new routine/schedule this week. I was having a terrible time managing Jenny, my 15 month old, who is no longer taking a morning nap. This week I started having the older children take turns “babysitting” her while I did one-on-one lessons with them (reading, writing, spelling). This seems to be working and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will continue.
Questions/thoughts I have…
I’m thinking about going to Blissdom again this year. Anyone else making plans to go??
Things I’m working on…
I’m working on putting a home management binder together. I really want to be more organized with my time and I think this will help.
I’m reading…
Educating the Whole Hearted Child by Clay and Sally Clarkson
Give Them Grace: Dazzling Your Kids with the Love of Jesus by Elyse Fitzpatrick
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
“There are only three divinely established institutions—family (referred to as the home or household in Scripture), government, and the church—and the home is the only institution designed and provided by God in Scripture for training children.” Clay Clarkson

Hi Monica! Stopping by for the 1st time from The Homeschool Mother’s Journal!
We’re also studying Apologia Astronomy this year! We finish this introduction chapter this past week, watching You Tube video to help the kids learn the order of the planets. It should be a fun year! I have lots of activities planned! I think Astronomy allows lots of videos and projects!
