Yesterday morning, EA seemed to be feeling lots better. Not completely 100%, but she definitely seemed to be on the mend from the day before.
I decided to do school with the girls, especially since we had missed the day before with EA being sick.
School went well, but I think I wore poor EA out! She started crying with an earache not long after we finished up.
She has a history of developing ear infections after having a cold, so I knew it would be best to take her in to the doctor right away. And with the weekend coming up with a forecast of snow, I didn’t want to put it off at all.
We called the clinic at our Army post, and of course, they didn’t have any available appointments.
But they deemed that she should be seen and we got approval to take her to the nearest urgent care clinic.
By this point she was feeling pretty awful and really did not want to go.
Her daddy had to carry her out to the car.
On the way to the clinic I promised her a prize if she was good for the doctor.
We talked about what the doctor would do. I explained that the doctor would have to look in her ears.
She couldn’t understand why he would have to look at both ears when only one was hurting. I explained that they had to make sure that the other ear wouldn’t be hurting soon, too.
And she expressed anxiety over the doctor looking into her ear that was hurting, because, well…it would hurt! I told her the doctor had to find out what was wrong with it so he could give her just the right medicine.
She seemed to be okay with my explanations and the promise of a prize afterward for being good.
And it all must have paid off, because she was excellent!
As I thought, she did have an ear infection, but only in one ear. We received antibiotics to start her on.
And she did not forget for one second about her promised reward.
I think she reminded me ten thousand times before we left the doctor’s office. She had one thing in mind for that reward, too….a green sucker.
Do you know how hard it is to find a lone green sucker??
In the end she picked out a marshmallow cupcake lollipop with a green background.
And it was a lovely choice for my sweet little girl!
