Keith and I were able to do something that he has talked about doing for so long.
A friend offered to watch our kids yesterday afternoon and we went out of a run together.
Keith is an awesome runner…he loves it AND is really good at it! For so long he has talked about how he would love for me to run with him.
This really became a dream for him when I signed up to run my first 5K race (coming up in just about a week) and began training with the Couch 2 5K program.
I was hesitant…I don’t like not being naturally good at something.
I’m not a pretty runner and I still struggle a lot with my emotions and mind control while running.
So, when we made plans for our first running date I was quite nervous.
But, really, there was no need for me to be.
My husband was so incredibly patient and encouraging to me.
He went a snail’s pace so that he could run alongside me and encouraged me every step of the way.
When I gave up and walked several times throughout our three mile run, he didn’t berate me. He was just there for me when I was ready to start running again.
I was afraid that our running date would end in conflict, but I’m so happy to report that I was completely wrong.
Our running date brought us closer.
We actually completed a total of almost 5 miles together, three and a half of those actually running.
I’m proud of myself and so proud of the man that I call my best friend and husband.
I’m also thankful for a friend to watch my children.
And while I’m being thankful, I don’t want to forget to mention the Subway restaurant we visited after our run.
I see more running dates in our future and am actually looking forward to running a race with Keith one day.
