Several of you commented on this picture of EA in my Project Life post last week.
Yes, this girl loves to read!! She has been drawn to books since she was a baby and was pretending to read so well that we all actually wondered if she really was as a toddler.
Now that she is in kindergarten and really learning to read, she loves it!!
The journaling from this page reads, “You’ve always had a love for reading. As a baby you loved for me to read books to you. Maybe even more, you loved to chew on and play with those books, but you did enjoy them. Then as a toddler, you would sit with a book open in your lap and make up words, babbling words,
just as if you were really reading the book. I think you believed that you were.
I began teaching you to read as a young preschooler and you grasped on so quickly that it surprised me. You were ready…ready to learn…ready to read.
Now as a kindergartener, you are reading books. At night you curl up on the couch and read Dick and Jane. It’s your favorite at the moment. I can’t wait to see you love for reading grow and flourish as you begin to read more and more.”
If you have a preschooler who’s ready to begin reading, I highly recommend The Ordinary Parent’s Guide to Teaching Reading by Jessie Wise. It has been excellent for both of my girls!

Monica – yeah for EA!! I’m so happy for her. I’m sure you ordered from Amazon the Dick & Jane books, but I wanted to confirm. I think my girls would like them too. Thanks for the other recommendation as well.

as far as books to read to the girls – we love the Skippy John Jones books for read aloud books – so much is wrong with them font & text wise to make them readers for the emerging reader, but they are funny and mix up Spanish with English. Just cute.
