I am so thankful for the church we have been able to attend during our short time in SC. It has been wonderful for our family in so many ways and we were welcomed with open arms from the very first minute we arrived.
My oldest three children have so enjoyed being a part of the Children’s Choir.
They were able to sing in the church’s Singing Christmas Tree program last weekend. It was an amazing experience for them to be a part of this opportunity to share the message of Christmas with thousands of people over the weekend.
Will sang in the kindergarten choir, which sang one festive Christmas song at the beginning of the program.
Do you ever have moments where time stands still as you are watching your child? That happened to me as I watched my little boy up on stage last weekend. I was able to sneak peeks of him as I was helping out during almost all of the performances. He looked so very little standing on the big stage, a candle in his hands.
EA and MC sang in the second and third grade choir. They sang several fun Christmas songs at the beginning of the program as well and then ended the program with two more meaningful songs.
This is such a fun season of the year.
It a season of joy and festivity.
It’s a season of sharing and giving.
It’s a season of celebration.
It’s a season of wonder and anticipation.
The program started with all of the “fun” Christmas songs that we love. Songs such as Frosty the Snowman and Rulolph the Red Nose Reindeer.
But then it moved to the real story of Christmas, which is our only real reason for celebration at this time of the year.
Buying presents, playing Santa, decorating our homes, watching Christmas specials on television, and baking all of our favorite treats are enjoyable and fun during the Christmas season, but we need to keep in mind that Christmas is about so much more than those things.
Christmas is about a baby, God’s one and only Son, being born to a faithful young girl who trusted an angel’s word and obediently became carried this baby in her womb.
Christmas is about her fiancé, Joseph, who also trusted God and became the earthly father and protector of the Christ child.
Christmas is about the Son of God humbly stepping out of the glory of heaven and coming down to earth as a vulnerable, innocent baby to offer hope and salvation to a world full of sin.
Christmas is about worshipping Christ.
Christmas is our opportunity to share the story…the whole story…of Christ with a world that so desperately needs to hear it.
Christmas isn’t a happy, joyous occasion for everyone. Many are hurting at this time of the year. Many are lonely. Many are sad, discouraged, and depressed.
We need to share the hope of Christmas as it is our only hope.
It can be there hope, too.
The Christmas program ended with two songs by the Children’s choir and the Halleluiah chorus.
The first song asked the question, “What Can I Give Him?”
What a great question to ask within our hearts as we are going through our gift-giving lists and as we ponder the marvelous gifts given to the baby Jesus by the wise men.
There is only one thing that He desires.
As the song states, “you can give him your heart”.
That’s all that he asks for.
You can trust this baby that was born in a humble stable in Bethlehem, grew up to be a perfect man who died on a Roman cross, was buried and rose from the grave three days later with your life.
You can trust him with all of your hurts, your doubts and fears.
You can give him your heart and it will be the greatest gift you can give this Christmas season.
The last song that the children’s choir sang at the end of the program was, “One Child”.
It spoke of how one child can change the world.
This one child, the baby whose birth we celebrate at Christmas, did change the world.
He made salvation, peace, and hope available to the world.
Twenty-two years ago, He changed my world as I personally accepted the salvation that He offers to the world.
No longer am I without hope.
No longer am I lonely, sad, or depressed.
No longer am I lost.
Has this One Child changed your world?
That’s why He came and that’s why we have reason to sing and celebrate at this Christmas season.

Loved seeing the picture of your sweet children performing! It is special to see them be a part of a powerful gospel story! I was moved to tears watching Rachel as a shepherd girl in the Twin Trees at First North. We also sang One Child— LOVED that song! It’s also cool that Mariah Carey wrote it and has recorded it. I love the idea of people hearing the TRUTH who aren’t necessarily looking for it– who are just buying a “Holiday” album, and they can’t figure out what is so moving about that ONE song. Praying God uses it to draw people to Himself!!!!
Merry Christmas– Sweet Friend!!!!
Love your guts!

This looks so lovely. You remind me of the words to the Michael Card Christmas song, “Eternity stepped into time, so we could understand.” Have a merry Christmas with your family!

Beautiful! I have vivid memories of watching my mom sing in something very similar when I was a child.
