Question: What in the world am I doing holding a brand new tennis racket?
Answer: Gearing up for my first tennis lesson tonight!!!
That’s right folks, I’m taking six beginner adult tennis lessons through our county’s recreation department. And to be totally honest, I’m a bit nervous about this undertaking.
Because I’m not athletic.
At all.
In fact the two courses that I struggled with the most in college were the athletic ones that I was required to take.
Modern Dance my freshman year…I earned a C. And that C was totally earned with blood, sweat and tears. Normally, I would have cried over a “C”, but I was just happy to have made it through the class in one piece.
Golf my senior year…I was given a B. Given a B out of the graciousness of my teacher’s heart because I had a melt down and cried after being sure that I was about to FAIL. I even went home and played golf with my uncle during Thanksgiving break. And they let me play for FREE because I was so bad.
So why tennis??
Last summer my husband took tennis lessons. He enjoys playing, but without a partner all he can do is hit balls off the backboard.
My girls took tennis lessons in the spring and they’re starting a new session next week along with their brother.
I figured it was my turn to participate and get some lessons in what is becoming our family sport.
The hope is that once I know what I’m doing Keith and I can go on dates to play tennis together…and that would ROCK!
But first I must survive this first night…pray for me…that I make it home alive and don’t make a complete fool of myself.
P.S. The barbecue stain on my shirt I have no explanation for except that I’m a very messy eater and the ribs were good last night .
