EA and MC’s birthday has come with much anticipation this year. Even before Keith deployed, we decided that the best time for him to take his mid-tour leave would be around their birthday. He wanted to be home for a special day and their birthday sounded like the perfect one.
Even though Keith has been deployed or just away for about half of their little lives, he has been able to be home for their birth and all four of their birthdays.
Soon after he left, I began telling the girls that Daddy would be home to visit on their birthday. And the two of them have been making plans with that in mind.
They had two requests for their special day, other than that it would be celebrated with Daddy home. They each requested the same birthday cakes that they had last year. EA wanted a strawberry cake and MC wanted chocolate. I’m thinking that these will become their traditional birthday cakes. They also wanted to eat at Chilis (there is one located at Ramstein Air Force Base, which is about a 30 minute drive for us).
I had an eye-doctor’s appointment early that morning, but we had a special breakfast of Strawberry Cheesecake French Toast when I returned.
After breakfast, the girls dressed in new dresses and got ready to open their many presents.
Grandma sent beautiful dresses from Hanna Andersson
Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!!
My parents, Nanny and Papa, sent baby dolls and a Leapster game.
Thank you Nanny and Papa!!
Keith and I gave the girls a variety of gifts. They received puzzles, lacing beads, pattern blocks, shoes, a tea set, and fingerpaint.
EA and MC spent the rest of the morning playing with their new possessions. EA absolutely loved her new tea set and baby! She’s such a little mother. MC started making a necklace with some lacing beads right away!
After a small lunch of PB&J, we cut MC’s chocolate cake and EA’s strawberry cupcakes. She decided the day before that she wanted cupcakes instead of a big cake this year. I will admit to helping her along just a little bit in this decision.
The afternoon went by quickly with the girls playing tea set, babies and Leapster before we started getting ready to head out to Chili’s for dinner.
The girls and Will were wonderful in the restaurant! MC did end up with a little tummy ache from all the excitement but I think it was worth it for her.
Their fourth birthday was so much fun for all of us. It was so much special because Daddy was able to be here with us.
I hope that one thing I will learn through this deployment it to never to take his presence for granted, especially when we are celebrating special days.
