We started the morning early so that we could get a good start on our drive to Disney. We’re making the trip in two days…making it easier on everyone by splitting it up a bit.
Our goal was to make it out the door by 9 am…and we drove out of our drive way at exactly 8:56.
Yay us!!!
Believe me, it is not an easy task getting our family of six up, dressed, packed and out the door by 9 am.
My husband is a huge McDonald’s fan, so no trip is complete without a trip there, and usually there are instagram pics as well. He thinks it’s fun to compare different McDonald’s as we travel across the country.
This was taken in some obscure town between New Mexico and Arizona.
Jenny is not and never has been the best car traveler. She did fairly well on this trip. There were bits of whining, but no full out meltdown with screaming and crying.
When things got close to out of hand, we were able to calm our little princess down with a Miss Pattycake DVD. A stop at Target in Tuson to stretch everyone’s legs helped as well.
The kids asked for books to read during our drive. I cannot tell you how much it warms this homeschool mom’s heart to see my little boy sounding out words and actually reading his new Star Wars book. It is just one of the very best feelings in the world.
I couldn’t help glancing back at him and beaming with pride in my new reader!
Since moving to the El Paso, I have really fallen in love with the unique landscape of the Southwest.
My favorite as we drove through Arizona was seeing the huge cactus spread throughout the open desert land.
We ended the day with a trip to Chili’s in Phoenix for dinner. Keith and I remembered a couple of gift cards that we had stored away as we were driving. My Chili’s gift card came in super handy tonight! I don’t remember who gifted this one to me, but THANK YOU whoever you are!
Chili’s is currently taking donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. MC colored a picture while waiting on her dinner and we happily made a donation to this great cause.
We’re all settling in for the night so that we’ll be all ready for our arrival at Disney Land tomorrow. We should be there in time for dinner and a good walk around the Downtown District before retiring to bed and resting up for a busy and exciting few days!

As far as I am concerned, when traveling with little kids, portable DVD players are the best invention ever! Of course my kids have only traveled by car 4 hours the longest but it makes everyone’s trip a little more bearable 🙂
