So…I finally made it out of the house!!!! I put the kids in Super Saturday day care at our Child Development Center and went on a day trip to Rudesheim, Germany. I tagged along with Carol and her FRG group. It was a really fun day, even though the weather was rainy and foggy.
Rudesheim is on the Rhine River, so we had to take the ferry to get across to it. Carol tried to find a way to avoid the ferry, but it seemed to be unavoidable. That is until her GPS took us home a different direction and we missed it!
This was my first time riding on a ferry boat.
One of my favorite things about Germany is the street markets in the cities. I jut love the cobblestone streets with shopping and lots of people. There weren’t crowds of people out because of the weather but the shopping was fun.
We went into a Catholic Church that we admired the architecture of. It is so neat to see something that is originally dated back to the 1400’s.
After having lunch, dessert, shopping, and walking around, we decided to take the cable cars to see some more sights. Even though the weather was not the best, the views were still incredible. I can’t wait to go back with Keith in the summer when the sun is actually out!
There was a huge grape vineyard that we passed by on the cable cars. Some of the vines were actually starting to bud.
Here you can see the river and a village on the other side.
I’m not sure what this statue if of, but it was the attraction when we got off of the cable cars. I guess I need to do a little research on that one….
I got back just in time to pick the kids up from daycare. It was so nice to get out for an entire day and see some sights around Germany. I had so much fun and can’t wait to do more day trips this summer with Keith and the kids.

Sounds like a great trip! Glad you were able to make it out with some girlfriends 🙂 If you want more opportunities to ride a ferry, you should come visit us and we can ride back-n-forth to Seattle all day 🙂 Though the ferries here are quite a bit bigger than the ones on the Rhine. Our kids got a kick out of how small those ones are compared to what we’re used to here in WA.

What a great day trip – no matter what the weather is like! I believe the statue is called “Germania” and celebrates German military victories. I intend to take Jason on a Rhein River cruise before we leave Germany. As I type, packers are all around me. I’m guarding my laptop from their frenzy! I have missed you with all the details of moving! See you on Friday.
