During a conversation with my husband tonight, I began to think about trust. Specifically, I was thinking about trusting in God.
In our sinful nature, we have a tendency to trust that God will provide the answers we want.
But we don’t always receive the answers that we want.
What happens to our faith then?
At one time that is how I operated, I trusted that things would be perfect (my perfect) in whatever situation I found myself in….
I trusted that Keith would stay in his first pastorate position for our lifetime in the ministry….
I trusted that my twin babies would be born on time, and perfectly healthy.
When in both of these circumstances, things did not turn out the way I trusted that they would, my faith was harmed. I lost sight of God for a length of time.
Yes, I returned to my faith and trust in God, but it was a long, hard journey back.
Our trust in God should not be determined by or based on our desired circumstances but by who HE is…nothing more and nothing less than that….just who HE is.
In trusting God we have to know that whatever happens is good and right for us…
…even when our career may change
…even when we are faced with the reality of death
….even when we move away from our family, friends, and the familiarity of home
…even when our husbands are deployed for months and months at a time.
When things don’t turn out the way we want them to, God is still perfect, holy, righteous and good. And he is more than deserving of our faith and trust.
Though our cicrcumstances have changed and the plans we make may not be realized, we can ALWAYS trust in God.

I just received a book that I ordered from Christianbook.com. It’s by Dr Steve Stephens – who happens to be the guy that did our marriage/family/ministry counseling for 9 years. It’s called “Risking Faith – A 40 Day Journey into the Mystery of God” and just taking a quick peek into the first chapter has me convicted already LOL. I think you would really enjoy it too 🙂
From the back “Risking Faith is a 40-day quest that will stretch your mind and strengthen your soul, transforming your relationship with God one day at a time. As you dive headfirst into the wonder and mystery of God, you’ll realize that this is the most important and amazing risk you will ever take…. and in just 40 days, you’ll leave ordinary faith behind forever.”

I have recently had to joy and pain of watching two friend miscarry within weeks of each other. They responses have been so encouraging to me to watch them even as they suffer the pain of the loss, through their tears and with broken hearts both lifted up praise it was more than I think I could do. I was inspired and encouraged to see such trust in their Creator.

GREAT post! SO True. I am currently struggling with GRATITUDE– and the SAME principles apply! My gratefulness is NOT to be based on my circumstances, but on WHO GOD IS, and ALL He’s done for me!! My current “Mantra” is “I live byfaith, not by sight (or sound).” I need to keep my focus on the ETERNAL and let THAT determine my attitude, not the temporal stuff that is in my face all the time.
Again, GREAT POST– Thanks for sharing. 🙂
