We found out last week that we are staying put where we are for at least another year…yay!!!
I love seeing new places and the opportunities that the Army gives us to do that, but I would like to really enjoy where we are living for a little longer. And it would be nice to live in one place for at least two years.
Since I heard that news, I’ve been desiring to do more to make our house a home.
I’m not a great decorator and it seems that since we’ve moved here I haven’t had time to do the meager decorating that I would like to do with being pregnant and then taking care of a baby.
Now that Jenny is getting older I’m able to do more.
Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. I love the colors and the sentiments that come along with it.
I’ve been admiring the many Valentine’s displays I’ve seen popping up on decorating blogs and sites over the last few weeks and have had a stirring to do something Valentine’s-ish to our mantle.
So, last Tuesday I took out my Cricuit machine that I haven’t really used since I got it over a year ago, and cut hearts out of some glittery cardstock paper I picked up at Michael’s.
I used large red hearts cut at 8” and smaller pink hearts cut at 4”.
Then I punched holes and threaded ribbon through to make the garland. This was so easy and fun!
It’s gracing our mantle now and looking at it makes me happy!
The kids got in on my decorating excitement as soon as they saw me working on this project.
EA and MC declared that they wanted to “help me get ready for February”!
As I was finishing up my heart garland, they were starting on theirs.
I gave them the card stock paper with the hearts cut out to use as a stencil and they cut out and decorated hearts from colored paper.
I helped them punch holes in their hearts and they went to work lacing my left-over ribbon through the holes.
By the way…this was a great home school lacing project!
My husband hung their colorful heart garland in one of the windows of our sun room.
This is a reminder for me that my little ones are always watching.
When I take pride in our home, truly making it a home by cleaning and putting up seasonal decorations and crafts, my little ones will follow suit.
The more excited I am about caring for my home, the more my children will be as well.
Both of these Valentine’s garlands fill my heart with love and happiness.

I too just finished a garland/ banner, for our birthdays. I made one 2 years ago for Christmas and decided to make one for birthdays as well; I hope to post photos soon. I am having issues with my picasa albums :(. I am glad you get to stay put for another year. The Army brought us here 7 years ago and we stayed when we got out. I love the NW, grew up here and hope to stay here for a while unless our civilian contract takes us else where. Have blessed Day!
