Yesterday afternoon, the girls were trying to play Red Rover.
I think they were playing with some older kids in chidcare during my FRG meeting Tuesday night.
But, with only two people, it’s a little hard to play Red Rover….even if you’re pretending.
EA would sing, “Red Rover, Red Rover, send Mary Caferine over”.
MC would run across the living room floor and stand by EA.
Then MC would sing, “Red Rover, Red Rover, send Katie over.”
Okay….Katie wasn’t here, so they would wait on a pretend Katie to run over.
It just wasn’t working.
So, I suggested that they play Simon Says….I would be Simon.
I explained to them how to play, and during the first round, both of them were out because they both did what Simon didn’t say to do. Can’t remember what that was.
So, I explained the game to them again and we gave it another go.
This time the instructions went something like this….
Simon says touch your nose.
They both touched their noses.
Simon says pat your head.
They both patted their heads.
Simon says clap your hands.
They both clapped their hands.
Okay….tickle your sister.
EA stood still.
MC went over to tickle her sister and I decided to use it as a teaching moment.
I stopped and asked “Did Simon say to tickle your sister”.
“No”
Okay, then don’t do it…why don’t you just say, “No….Simon didn’t say!”
She repeats after me “No, Simon didn’t say!”
And then much to my dismay, MC runs over and tackes EA down to the ground in a effort to tickle her.
EA was completely off guard and fell down, hurting her lip.
I was in SHOCK at the power of MC and I immediatley sent her to her room.
She went screaming and crying!!
After a few minutes of calming EA down, I went in to talk to MC.
When I asked her why she pushed her sister down, she, through her crying said, “BECAUSE SIMON SAID AND I WAS THE ONLY ONE”.
“Well, no honey. We talked about that, Simon didn’t say”.
MC went in and apologized to her sister and gave her a hug.
Then I gave up. Obviously, we’re not ready for Simon Says just yet.

That is quite precious! I’m sure they’ll get it soon. I love the red rover anecdote with the pretend friend running over… very cute! Ring around the Rosie and Duck Duck Goose are circus favs right now.
