I love having twins! I really do.
These girls are the best of friends. They have been together every single day of their entire lives from the time they came home from the NICU.
They usually play together so nicely.
But they can have lots of sisterly disagreements and fights too.
This week has been full of lots of those.
Today, after they had an hour of quiet time, I surprised them by letting them come out of their rooms while Will was still napping so we could play their new Leapster game together.
We had lots of fun helping Dora and Diego find letters of the alphabet.
They got distracted from our play when their grandma called. Each of them talked shortly to her and went back to playing the game while I continued our conversation.
The girls usually require lots of help while playing. The joystick is not the easiest thing to manuever and it helps if I am there to lend a helping hand.
MC tried to play on her own while I was on the phone and began to get frustrated.
She is a bit of a perfectionist like her mommy. And doesn’t like to play something that is more frustrating than fun, so she reached over and turned the entire thing off.
EA was sitting on the floor beside her sister waiting on her turn to play when it was suddenly turned off.
She was understandably upset about this turn of events.
Because I was still on the phone, I seperated the girls until I could appropriately deal with the situation. But before I finished my conversation with Keith’s mom, the girls had moved on and were reading books, so I let it drop.
During snack time, EA came over and said “Mommy, tomorrow when I play my game, my sister shouldn’t turn it off.”
I replied, “No, she shouldn’t. That wasn’t very nice of her.”
MC’s response was “But I was done playing!”.
I explained to her why it was not considerate to turn the game off while her sister was still playing and told her she should apologize.
She immediatly gave a very loud and uncaring, “I’m sorry!”
And this is how the rest of the apology went:
Me: “No, you need to apologize to your sister like you mean it.”
MC: “She needs to come over to me so I can rub her back and say it to her.”
EA walks over to MC who starts to say “I’m sorry” and reaches to rub her sister’s back.
EA: “Ugh! But her hands are messy!!!!”
MC: “Go get me a napkin to clean my hands.”
EA fetches the napkin and proceedes to clean her sister’s hands before she is allowed to rub her back.
And everything was forgiven.
That is until the next fight.
