My girls turned nine on Monday and I’m still taking it all in.
They are growing and changing before my eyes.
All of my babies are.
Some days I just want time to stop and then I don’t really, because I am so excited about the people my children are becoming.
I’m excited to know them as people and I’m thrilled with the next stage of life that we’re entering.
Okay…so onto the birthday celebrations.
I worked all Friday afternoon on making their cupcakes and all the work was SO worth it!!! They were delicious and pretty…WIN!
We had their party with friends at a close by park.
Unfortunately, it was the first very windy day of the windy season here in El Paso. This birthday party will forever go down in the books as “the windy one”. I had the cupcakes set up on a cute little cupcake stand, but had to move them onto the table because the wind was knocking them over and they were turning into flying cupcakes.
Will asked me on Saturday morning what he was going to do with all girls and no boys to play with. I told him he would just have to play with girls. I don’t know why this was a problem because that’s what he pretty much does every. single. day.
Fortunately for Will, some of his friends came along with their sisters.
My boy loves hanging with HIS BOYS!
All of the kids had a blast running around and playing at the park.
There was a big open area right next to where we had the party set up and, of course there was a playground nearby, too.
After they all played, we began the festivities of enjoying some cupcake and snacks and then opening the birthday presents.
The wind made blowing out the candles on their cupcakes quite challenging.
All of the adults crowded around in an attempt to block the wind and I even had a friend cupping her hand around the flame that I tried to light…
…in the end I “pretend” lit the candles and told the girls to “pretend” blow them out and we called it good.
For their actual birthday they requested doughnuts for breakfast with candles to blow out. I did this last year for Will and Jenny’s birthday and I’m thinking it may be turning into a tradition.
I bought the easy number candles. I remember eyeing these in the grocery store myself as a kid and I always thought they were the coolest thing ever.
They also requested breakfast for dinner for their birthday dinner. We had chocolate chip pancakes, eggs & bacon followed by an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins.
Happy Birthday sweet girls! 9 is going to be a great year!!!
