I love to read.
I mean I REALLY LOVE TO READ.
I can become obsessed over a good story line and find stopping in the middle of a plot to do…well, to do anything…extremely hard. I have read until I thought my eyes would dry out.
Since becoming a mommy, I hardly ever have time for my favorite past time. But recently I have found an easy way to fit some reading into my busy day.
Often I have to sit with Will as he lays in bed and drifts off to bed, especially at night. He doesn’t have to be rocked to sleep but he likes for me to be close by as he makes his journey into dreamland. I started placing a book light and a current book on his windowsill. As he lays in bed, mumbling to himself and tossing around as he is falling asleep, I sit in our blue velvet chair and read away. I actually enjoy the various sounds he makes as he begins to give up the fight while I’m reading a book. When he’s sound asleep, I gently lay my book and light back on the windowsill and tiptoe out of his room.
I recently finished reading “A Place of Quiet Rest” by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. And the entire book was read during sessions with Will during nap and bedtime. Right now, “Calm My Anxious Heart” by Linda Dillow is sitting on his window sill. I was able to read a whole chapter tonight.
Also, as Elizabeth Anne is beginning to phase out of taking afternoon naps on a daily basis, I have a book at hand for times when I need to sit with her. On days she really NEEDS a nap, but doesn’t want to take one, she will ask to “lay on mommy”. I will sit on her bed, with a book at hand, and she lays in my lap. While she’s calming down and falling asleep, I pet her sweet little head and read away. I’m working my way through “The Power of a Positive Mom” as I sit with EA.
Having a book at hand while my children need me to sit with them has helped me to find time for reading during my busy day as a stay at home mom of three children under three. It Works for Me. So true, I have four little ones and reading can be so challenging. I have always been a reader too. It takes creative strategies to fit it in.
Thanks for the reading time suggestions and the book reviews too!!!
