Hello friends!!!
So, remember when I did a blog update and told you that I was moving to a new blog and saying goodbye to my home here at DailyDwelling? Well, forget that! I’ve been blogging for twelve years and I’m here to humbly admit that I have no idea what I’m doing.
Except that at my heart I really do.
And then I get in my head and overthink way too much.
And then I make drastic changes that I end up regretting.
And that’s exactly what I did with that last post.
I was inspired by listening to two podcasts this week to just get back in the game and come back to my home on the internet. I’ll share more about that as I recommend those podcasts and do some other updates in my 5 for this week.
{one} What would YOU tell you to do?
The first podcast that I was inspired by was Laura Tremaine’s 10 Things to Tell You episode 52: What would YOU tell you to do?
This episode is all about making decisions and how we really know ourselves best and have the best intuition on what we should do.
As soon as I saw the title of the episode, I immediately thought, “well, I would tell myself to JUST start blogging again. I have been back and forth with my blog, with writing, with the fear of being vulnerable, and with sharing. I stopped writing here and when I felt the pull to write again, I started a new blog and thought that would give me a fresh start. But I missed this space. So, I stopped blogging there.
At the end of the day, I knew I just needed to get out of my head and just go back to the basics. That’s what I would advise someone else to do. And sometimes I just need to listen to and take my own advice.
{two} Your Last Decade #7: Kelly Stamps
This afternoon as I was driving, I listened to the latest Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey episode. She is doing a special series called Your Last Decade her guest today was Kelly Stamps of Kelly’s Korner blog.
Kelly has been blogging for ten years and she spoke about how she is very content with her “old school” blog. She doesn’t have a desire to move on to “bigger” things, but to continue doing what she loves and that is sharing her life on her blog.
This resonated with me so much!! I have loved just sharing my life through the blogging platform. I have no desire for bigger or better things. I have no desire to monetize my blog or grow my following or write a book. I just want to write and share.
I promised myself that I would come home and open up this space to write as soon as I got home. And that’s exactly what I did! And that’s what I’m going to continue to do. I invite you to join me here and follow along as I embrace “old school” blogging again.
Now, let’s get back to the business of sharing some exciting updates in the rest of my Five on Friday list!
{three} Promotion to Lieutenant Colonel
Keith was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the Army with a ceremony at the State Department this week. It was such an exciting day for all of us. I am so proud of Keith and the work he does every day. I am also proud of his deep sense of calling to serve God in the chaplaincy.
Army life has been such an adventure for us! Each assignment has had a unique feel and different opportunities. We have survived deployments and separations and came back together to be a stronger unit.
I am also proud of our four children and how they have handled our Army adventures. They are so incredibly resilient.
{four} New Glasses
Last week I took all four kids and myself in for eye exams. The girls and I all discovered the need for new glasses. Actually, EA and MC will be wearing glasses full-time for the first time now.
We were excited to pick out frames and we picked those up today!
We all went with something different. I opted for a change from my usual tortoiseshell frames with a clear plastic frame. EA and MC both went with wire frames. EA went with a round shape for her lenses. And my purple-loving Jenny chose purple plastic frames.
{five} Pieces of Us
I have been following along with and participating in the “Pieces of Us” self-portrait adventure hosted by Ali Edwards this week.
Each day has a self-portrait theme and it has been incredible to follow along with the community and see all of the photos shared this week.
I have been challenged and inspired by this project! Each photo has been so different and has given me something to think about. I’m planning to share these photos in a blog post next week. I would also like to make a mini-album with them.
