Sometimes, I can get so bogged down in my day to day life taking care of the kids and the house, that I forget to relax and find humor in my day.
This morning the girls were goofing around while I was on the phone with Keith.
I just love it when Keith calls in the mornings because in a way, we can start our day off together.
This morning he called right as I was getting the girls dressed.
They had already picked out the dresses and tights they wanted to wear. Actually, EA had already picked out the dresses and tights and MC just went along with her plan.
While I was talking to Keith the girls were just running around playing and generally goofing off.
I was in mid-sentence when all of a sudden I was smacked by a pair of purple polka-dotted tights attatched to EA’s hand.
I think it’s safe to say that I saw red.
“EA!” I spoke harshly, pronouncing every single syllable of her name. And I immediately reacted by sending her to her room.
When I got back to the phone Keith asked me what happened and I said “EA just hit me with her tights.” (I think I may have called them panty hose at the time) “I don’t know what I’m going to do with her!”
After clarifying up a little confusion about why she had panty hose/tights, he asked “She hit you with her tights?”
And then do you know what he had the audacity to do?
He laughed at me!
Then I had to stop and consider that it was pretty funny.
And put myself into his shoes.
He isn’t able to be with them from day to day.
To witness first hand all of their funny and sometimes annoying antics.
To hear their silly jokes.
To teach.
To correct.
To discipline.
To greet in the morning.
To hug and kiss goodnight.
And in that light, being hit with tights just isn’t a big deal. It’s not really something to get angry over.
It was an accident.
Plain and simply an accident.
I need to constantly remember what a priviledge it is to be able to be with my children all the time.
To listen to all their convesations.
To lear their laughter and cries.
To disciple and discipline.
To greet in the morning and kiss goodnight.
And, yes, even to get hit with their tights.

You have a good perspective. I need to remember this on days where my frustration levels grows…and grows. I should feel blessed that God has shared these little people with me-no matter what mistakes thay make.

ok this one made me teary eyed — we are so blessed to get to be a part of our childrens’ every moment, and I know their daddy would love to do the same. It sure puts perspective on taking it forgranted!
Thanks for sharing!
