I feel like I’m finally getting a handle on toy organization in my home…FINALLY!
Last week I took several days to work on this project.
I moved things around.
I arranged and rearranged.
I cleaned and threw out.
I moved things to the basement.
I came up with a plan. And the plan is actually working.
It is so much easier to do a pick-up and for the girls to help me clean now that there is a place for everything and we have a simple system to keep their toys organized.
Let’s start looking at things in the living room which is part play room as well.
The girls have a table and chairs set that was given to them by their aunt. They play games, do art, and sometimes have small snacks here. The bookshelf has baskets for board books on the top shelf and legos on the bottom shelf. It used to have three shelves, but the brackets for the third shelf were lost in a move…a definite hazard of the Army life. There are two baskets for toys, one is just for balls.
This is Will’s area of the living room, with his two favorite toys. He inherited the dinosaur from his sisters and the Little People garage was a birthday gift. His toy baskets are organized by type of toy (balls in one basket, cars in one, and blocks in another). The extra baskets just hold random small toys.
Here’s a close-up of his toy baskets.
Will’s room is next:
The corner of Will’s room is where the rest of his toys are kept. He has a toy box with three sections for the smaller toys and stuffed animals. The laundry basket holds his larger toys. And, of course, his animal train is always out and ready to go.
EA and MC’s room:
This is what you see looking into the girls’ room.
The toy organizer by MC’s bed houses a variety of baby dolls and stuffed animals.
Their play kitchen and toy organizer for their kitchen items is on the opposite wall, by EA’s bed.
The girls also have two closets in their room (wall lockers, really). I use the bottom half of one of those for more toy organization. All their Little People sets are housed on one shelf. The middle shelf has containers for Little People, and pizza and birthday cake pieces. The bottom shelf has containers for doll clothes, baby blankets, and play bags.
Getting the kids toys put away and organized has been a huge tackle for me. It has made my life a bit easier this last week and I think it’s something that we can continue.

Caroline and I love the new arrangement!! The girls probably have a lot more room to play now. By the way, did you get a new rug in the living room? We noticed it in the eleventeen blog. Caroline said “Is there such thing as a ELEVENTEEN? HEE HEE!! Have a wonderful day!

Ah PCSing is so much fun!!!! I have found that organization is key to helping our kiddos keep things neat and tidy. I have been trying to implement the Number 1 rule. One toy out at a time, haven’t enforced it yet, but hey a girl can dream right!!! The rooms look awesome

Looks like this was a lot of work, but it turned out great! I love seeing how others organize all of the toys! Best of luck at keeping up with the organization…this may be the biggest task!

It looks great!! Are you hiring yourself out? 😀
We really need to part with 10 years worth of toys, but the problem is getting the initiative to start. We will definitely get rid of stuff before the next move!
