For my birthday last week, the children gave me a gift that’s just from them.
Keith took the girls shopping with him and they helped pick out my gifts. I knew they would have to do this since they’ve been anticipating this day for months.
The very special gift that came just from my three little ones this year was an ESV Study Bible. I’ve been wanting one for a long time. I started using the ESV Bible last year and really like it. The next logical step was to get a study Bible in this translation.
My heart was blessed at the inscription on the inside of the cover. It was given to me from EA, MC, and Will on August 31, 2009. I’ll never forget it.
The girls seemed to be more excited about the gift bag that it came in than the actual gift itself. It was a Hello Kitty bag, by the way.
But we actually didn’t realize just how special it was to them.
When I was sitting with Will tonight before he went to sleep tonight, Keith quietly came into the room to tell me that the girls wanted to ask me a question.
I knew by the look on his face that it would be something that I would treasure.
They came in and asked, “Mommy are you going to take your new Bible to church?”
I assured them that my new Bible was very special to me because it came from them and that, yes, I was going to take it to church with me.
MC also added that I could use it if I go up to read scripture (I often volunteer to do this in our chapel service), that I could use it to sing from, and I can always use only that Bible now.
And that is pretty much the case.
I can envision this Bible being one that years down the road is falling apart and tattered from constant use.
I will treasure this special gift given to me by my children on my birthday.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says,
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
God’s Word is precious to me. This particular Bible is even more so because it was given as a gift from my children who treasure their Mommy and bless my heart every single day.
When the girls went back into the living room, MC proudly told her Daddy, “That means she likes it!”

What a wonderful birthday gift, and how special that it came from your children. I am hoping for an ESV study Bible for Christmas or my Birthday one of these days 🙂
