I shared with you a few weeks ago a prayer request for my brother-in-law, Darryl, who has been diagnosed with cancer in his sinuses.
Darryl has been scheduled for a surgery to remove the tumor next Thursday.
This surgery will be very involved, lasting 8-10 hours. His wife, Kay, wrote on their Caring Bridge site that they will basically cut from the base of his right eye, down his nose and basically pull back his cheek. Then they will also have to remove his upper jaw bone to remove the tumor. They will remove his fibula (the small bone in his leg) to reconstruct his jaw. There is a possibility of nerve damage and of the loss of his right eye.
His recovery will also be very involved. He will be in ICU for 2 days and hopefully move to a regular room and stay about 6-8 more days. After that he will have to go through some cosmetic surgery. He will also have to go through therapy to walk again.
My heart has been burdened for Darryl and his wife as they walk this road.
They have shown nothing but complete trust and faithfulness as they have prayed and asked for prayers on his behalf.
On Monday morning, I read the story in Matthew of the faith of a centurion soldier. This soldier came to Jesus asking for healing of his servant.
He came believing.
He said to Jesus, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed.”
He came to the One…the only one with the authority to heal. To answer his prayer.
He said to Jesus, “For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,” and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.
To this man’s faith, Jesus responded, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.”
The centurion’s servant was healed.
This passage has been impressed upon my heart as my prayer for Darryl since reading it.
Over and over, my mind and my heart meditates on Matthew 8:13
Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.
“…as you have believed…”
Darryl has believed.
His wife, Kay, has believed.
I am believing.
Will you please join me in praying this for Darryl?
I am so thankful for each of you, for the comments you leave here daily. I am thankful for your words of blessing and encouragement.
I am honored by the community and the fellowship I have with you.
I would like to ask you to especially remember to pray next Thursday as he is undergoing surgery.
On next Thursday, January, 20, I will post specific requests for his surgery. I would ask that you will leave words of encouragement and prayer for Darryl in the comments of that post. You can also visit and receive updates from Darryl and Kay at their CaringBridge site. It would be an encouragement for them to know that they are being prayed for by you.

Monica, I have been praying for Darryl often, and reading his site. I plan to mention him at church this Sunday for prayer. He and Kay are in my thoughts daily.

My sister in law went through a similar procedure to remove cancer from her sinuses. It is grueling and painful and I will be praying for your whole family.
