EA, MC, and Will had their yearly check-ups yesterday.
They were really overdue since EA and MC turned five in March and Will turned three in May.
Since they were all due, I scheduled them all on the same day to knock all three out at once.
During their check-ups I got quite tickled at their responses to some of the questions that the pediatrician asked them…
When she asked the girls what they had for breakfast they both responded Eggo’s with chocolate. I’m sure she was looking at what kind of nutrition they are getting and, well…I admit, Eggo’s covered in chocolate doesn’t sound like the best.
{It was actually Eggo Waffles with Nutella spread, which does have some nutritional value…I think}
She asked them if they like to eat vegetables and both girls responded, “Yes!â€
But when she asked them what their favorite vegetable is, MC piped up with, “bananasâ€.
{ummm…that’s not a vegetable}
EA did say she likes carrots.
When the doctor asked her if she likes salt on her carrots, EA said, “NO! That’s silly!â€
Somewhere in my conversation with the pedi she stated that daycare and school is good for their development.
Obviously, I {strongly} disagree since I’m a homeschooling mom.
And her next question to the girls proved my point that public school may not be the best option.
She asked EA what she would do if someone brought a gun to school.
EA said she would go hide.
I think the answer the doctor was looking for was to go tell the teacher.
{Thankfully, that isn’t going to be a problem in our school!}
EA and MC both gave the doctor completely blank stares when she asked them if they smoke {HELLO…they’re FIVE} and started talking to them about the dangers of smoking.
I explained to her that I don’t think they’ve ever even seen a cigarette.
She asked them if they buckle their seat belts and MC shook her head “noâ€. I have no idea why because they always do.
At home, MC said she was “infusedâ€â€¦translation, confused.
To test Will’s speech, she asked him to repeat “The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogâ€.
He wasn’t very interested in doing that, but he did name the animals on the puzzle he was working on and the colors of everyone’s shirts.
This morning I asked Will to repeat it for me.
We did it slowly first, only a couple words at a time.
Then I asked him to repeat the entire phrase and I said it all together for him.
He repeated, “The quick brown fox fell down!â€
{I think I may like his better.}
Have you had any funny conversations with your little ones lately?

Where is this doctor??? That whole thing just cracked me up and is very telling at the same time. It is so interesting to me what the world finds to be good markers for development and how different those markers are from our own.
Samuel had to have his hearing tested when he was about Will’s age and that whole conversation is about the funniest thing ever 😉

Sounds like quite the adventure! 🙂 I remember when my daughter (my former micropreemie) was just turning three and we were filling out paperwork to get her qualified for therapies through the public school system… there was a list of “behaviors” we were to check off if they applied to her. It started out fine enough- “tantrums”, “refusal to eat”, “sleeping problems” but, by the end, it had things like “gang activities”, “promiscuity”, “gambling problems”, “drug-seeking behaviors”… I mean, she was TWO!

Wow! Those are some crazy questions to be asking your 5 year old. It does just show how crazy this world is getting. It’s can be frustrating dealing with pediatrician’s that openly disagree with your choices. I’ve been there and I’ve changed ped’s because of it.
