Happy day before Valentine’s Day!!!
Valentine’s Day is a big deal around here. We have lots of traditions and we try to make it special. I have a special breakfast for the kids planned for tomorrow morning and my husband and I are looking forward to going out on a lunch date to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. I can’t wait!!!
But, first…let’s savor today. I’m excited to share five of my favorites from this week with you!
Read
I’m still working my way through my current read, so I thought I’d share with you the book that I am reading with my girls in school, Swift Rivers. In this story, eighteen year old Chris Dalhberg courageously takes on the task of harvesting the timber on his elderly grandfather’s land and driving the logs down the spring flood waters of the Mississippi River to the markets of the new frontier town of St. Louis. Chris is an admirable young man of honorable character and determination. We’re going to finish this book this weekend and I’m excited to finish this journey it feels that we’ve taken with Chris.
Watch
My husband and I just finished watching the latest episode of Gotham, the new series on Fox. Keith is an avid comic book reader and knows the story of Batman and Gotham so well that he really appreciates all the subtle plot developments and the foreshadowing in the show. I am happy to join in and I have really enjoyed watching this with him. Our Saturday routine is usually that I get up early and head to the gym to workout, then I get groceries and pick up a sandwich for the two of us at Subway on my way home. We then eat lunch and watch Gotham together after the kids go to their rooms for quiet time.
Listen
You all know that I love to listen to podcasts. One of the newest podcasts (to me) that I’m enjoying immensely is The Read Aloud Revival hosted by blogger and fellow homeschool mom Sarah Mackenzie of Amongst Lovely Things. I am a huge fan of reading aloud to my children and I love listening to this podcast that is hyper focused on encouraging parents to do that well! I learn so much and I’m encouraged by every episode that I’ve listened to. I even have plans to go back and listen to the ones that I haven’t listened to, yet…and I don’t do that with many podcasts.
Follow
For follow, today I would love to introduce you to Joy Forney. I’ve read Joy’s blog off and on for many years. Joy is a light and a blessing to other moms. She is a missionary wife living and writing from Africa about “mothering five children, radical faith, and international missions”. She writes beautiful, honest, and encouraging words. I have been convicted about really expressing my appreciation for the bloggers that I follow by interacting with them more, and I would encourage you to do the same. So, I’m going to head on over to Joy’s blog and comment on her latest post!
Learn
Can I be honest and say that when I sat down to write this post, I could not think of one thing that I learned this week. That’s just sad to me, friends. And then I remembered this post by Emily Freeman about how she keeps track of what she’s learning and I was so inspired!!! Today I’m learning that It’s important to keep track of what I’m learning and because of Emily’s post, I’m now exploring ways to do just that.
Thanks so much for joining me today!
