We’re spending the year studying birds in science.
I am learning right along with my children as we study these fascinating creatures and the unique way in which God created them.
Did you know that if we…as in you and me…were able to suddenly sprout feathers and wings, we still wouldn’t be able to fly?
It’s not just the having of wings and feathers that gives birds the ability to lift up and soar into the air above.
The ability to fly also exists within the bones.
Our bones are too thick and heavy for flight.
God designed a bird’s bones completely different from other creatures.
The bones of birds are light and hollow, yet extra strong because of very thin brackets running across them.
When we see birds flying around in the air above we witness them doing the exact thing that they were created to do…with every bit of their being, even down to their bones.
This makes me wonder what it is that God has created me to do…even down to my very bones.
I don’t have to wonder very long before I know.
I look around me and I listen to the sounds of this quiet home in the early hours of the morning and I know.
I know because I can feel it down deep into the very fiber of my being.
I know that I was created to care for these four children that are still savoring the last moments of sleep.
I know that I was created to love and serve my husband who is on his way to work.
I know that I was created to write these words that you’re reading right now.
I know that I was created to love and encourage the friends that God has so blessed me with.
I know that I was created to declare God’s love and Christ’s sacrifice.
I know these callings because they are mine and I can feel them all the way down deep into my bones.
Just as a bird is uniquely created to take flight.
So are we uniquely created by God to do a special work, to love those around us and to declare His glory.
Do you know what it is that you were uniquely created by God to do?
Today I’m joining with other writers at 5 Minute Friday to write words free of worry.
The community that Lisa Jo has built up is amazing and encouraging and I am blessed to be a part of it.
Today’s topic was Fly and I can’t wait to read the words given to others around this one simple word!

I love the way you mix faith and science. In seminary, I always enjoyed when we learned about the two side by side in theology classes.
So happy for you that you know your calling. Blessings.

I did not know this about birds and their bones. Thank you for the science lesson!

Wow, this is so beautiful. What a wonderful way to discuss the topic of our callings in life. Really amazing. Great job! And…thank you for stirring me to take a fresh look at my design. Sincerely…
