I hate it when something devastating happens and I don’t have anyone to tell about it. Well, it just did, so I’m telling you!
I volunteered to do the company newsletter for our FRG (Family Readiness Group). I mean, why not, with all the spare time I have on my hands with raising three children under three while my husband is deployed, right??
In all seriousness, though, I’ve really been looking forward to it. I love to work on projects like this.
Keith gave me the newest version of PrintShop for Christmas last year (as in 2006) and I haven’t really had the opportunity to do much with it. So, this was the perfect opportunity.
The deadline for everyone to have information to me was tonight, so I began working on it as soon as the kids were in bed. I was working so intensely, that I didn’t even have a snack tonight!
I was good and saved it after the first page but began to furiously work on the second page of “family announcements”. I was busy putting in clip art, and customized graphics. I was on the very last text box and trying to find just the right font to use for the title of it. As I was scrolling through fonts, all of a sudden, I got one of those annoying messages that there was an error and the program had to shut down.
OH, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I lost all of my hard work.
But what’s worse than losing all of that work is that I don’t have one single person to complain to. I guess I could wake the girls up to tell them, but it’s so not worth that and they wouldn’t have a clue what I was talking about!
My back aches from being on this computer for the last three hours with nothing to show for my work…I’m going to bed!

WOW~ I am SO sorry you lost your work! And I completely understand not having anyone to share news with! But hey, you’ve got us.

Oh no! I am so sorry! Something like that happened to me the other day. I went to a conference and was thrilled to sit in on a session with the keynote speaker. I typed notes into my laptop (practically getting every word he said) and then hit the wrong button when it was time to leave. Instead of saying “yes” to save, I accidentally hit “no”. I felt sick and wanted to cry. At least now you have a practice run for what you want to do.

I hate that for you! I’m sorry you lost all that work. I find that I either “oversave” every 5 seconds or forget to save at all…I’m sure you can guess in which instance the error message always appears. It’s like the computer just knows!

OH DEAR! Complain to us… we’re here to listen. I am so, so sorry… that just really, really stinks in that “please let this be a mistake and all that info still be there” way. 🙁

Monica–
I’m so sorry I know that it must have been wonderful. Thank you for putting so much effort into communicating with our families. I love you!!

My heart goes out to you! I can’t count the number of tests and exams I had to recreate when the school server had “issues.” And you can always call me. We never go to bed early.

Monica, I’m so sorry you lost your work after working so hard at it.Just want you to know if you ever need to vent I’ll lend you my ear. Love You

So sorry that happened! How frustrating! Hope that, otherwise, you and family are doing well 🙂

I probably shouldn’t laugh, but Monica, I just couldn’t help it! The thought that you were more frustrated because you didn’t have anyone to complain to about the shut-down–I just found myself smiling and giggling.
In all seriousness, though, I can completely empathize with your frustration. Computers are so picky!

As the person who told Monica that no one had responded to my request for a Newsletter Editor..and Monica, being the WONDERFUL, gracious, giving, kind..well, you all KNOW her..said she would do it.
Now, I am expecting something simple…
Last night, we had our regular Thursday FRG let’s pig out at the “Chicken Buffet”..which we found out last night that spaghetti is now included in the chicken category of food… Monica brings me a sample of the newsletter.
I AM TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY! It is so GOOD, PROFESSIONAL, CREATIVE, AWESOME, FANTASTIC..everything you would expect from someone getting paid a lot of money to put together.
I THEN saw how losing everything that night on the computer must have hit her in her gut..tired and empty gut.
Some of you know Monica personally, others know her thru this…I feel so TOTALLY blessed that she is in my life. In real time.
If you don’t know her, you get a sense of her..to know her in real life..it is rewarding in so many areas. This may sound corny, but I do feel humbled and encouraged..and wish you all could have a face to face relationship with her. As you already know..she is FANTASTIC!
