I put the girls and Will in respite care for the first time today. The Army is offering sixteen hours of free care per child each month. I am realizing that I do need to take advantage of the wonderful services that are being offered. Four free hours a week to do whatever I need to do…to just DO NOTHING if that’s what is needed…can make a huge difference for me.
EA and MC LOVE, LOVE, LOVE going to child care. Will…no so much, but that’s another blog post. They were very excited to go to a “new” day care today. So, off they went.
They are pretty much completely potty trained. But I still need to pack a change of clothes “just in case”. I packed a backpack for each of them with an extra set of clothes and a pull-up, but they had instructions to tell the teacher if they needed to go potty.
When I returned from my outing today, MC and EA were playing at the playground with their teachers. I think they must have been the only three year olds in day care today. I immediately knew something was amiss when I spotted MC. She had on her “extra” shirt with the biggest pair of denim shorts…she looked like she was a hip hop dancer.
I asked her if she had an accident and her reply was, “Mommy, I MADE A MESS!!”
I looked over at the teacher, Mr. Steve, and he said, “Well that’s a great way of putting it.”
Apparently, her first mess came from spilling milk all over herself during snack time. That is when she was changed into her “extra clothes” and then she had the potty mess.
She was happy to pose for a blog/scrapbook picture when we came home. And she had to make sure that I also got a picture of her “red boo boo” that she got at least two weeks ago when she fell and skinned her knee. It’s has almost disappeared, but she makes sure to point it out every single time her knee is exposed, “Mommy, see my red boo boo?”
The girl who made a mess today IS A MESS!!

Don’t the things that our kids are proud of just amaze you? Recently, the Misses were proudly “feeding” Miss S’s plant. They were digging dirt out of the garden and putting it on top of the plant, and all over themselves! Their explanation – “Mommy you told us that all plants need sun, dirt, and water to grow. We’re just feeding it some dirt.” Maybe I need to scale back the detail in the biology lessons. 🙂
Also – so cool that there is a male working with the kids!
