While visiting with Ann, a friend, on Sunday, we discussed how we should get the kids together to play outside on their bikes since the weather is starting to get cooler. She sent out an e-mail inviting some friends to bring their kids to the “First Ever Toddler Bike Rally”.
I loaded the girls red tricycles in the back of our van during their nap today. They have not been able to ride those trikes since a few weeks before Keith left. It has been stored in our basement.
I also baked some brownies and packed juice drinks. We were planning to serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches after the bike riding festivities.
EA woke up from her nap first, and I gave her the news of our plans for the afternoon.
I have learned that I should NEVER….never ever ever…tell them our plans until it’s time to get ready, especially if it’s something that they will be excited about. And that pretty much includes everything imaginable. They even get excited about a trip to the post office.
As expected, EA and MC were both excited to get to ride their bikes at Mrs. Ann’s house and to play with their friends. It did not take too much encouragement (nagging) from me to get them to get themselves ready. They changed into play clothes and put their shoes on pretty quickly today.
We left almost as soon as Will woke up from his nap.
Ann decorated the sidewalk in front of her stairwell with sidewalk chalk to welcome us all to the Todller Bike Rally.
EA and MC had an absolute blast riding their tricycles. They have learned to pedal since the last time they rode. They do get some practice at the respite daycare that they attend once a week.
(okay, I know MC isn’t actually pedaling in this picture, but I promise that she is doing it!)
Will had fun riding his little bike as well.
After about an hour of bike riding, the kids were treated to an ice cream cone from “Homie”. He drives around post selling the best ice cream cones EVER from EIS Cafe, the ice cream cafe in town. They each got a strawberry cone and enjoyed them immensely. I think Will enjoyed it more than anyone else, though. The poor boy was shaking because it was so cold as he was licking as fast as he could because it was so good. By the time he was all done, he was covered in ice cream….COMPLETELY COVERED!
After “Eis” cream, the kids did a variety of other outside activities. They rode in a wagon together, they played with sidewalk chalk, and they played in the grass.
After peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, the children admired and popped bubbles while the mommies cleaned up.
It was such a fun day!! And the best part was that they were all so tired when we came home that it took no time at all for all three to fall asleep.

It looks like they had a wonderful time! Smart not telling your kids until it’s time to go. They would keep asking if it’s time, all day.

How fun!! I’m glad to see people having fun outside!
I seem to always be out of euros when we see the eis guy and his truck. Is that good or not-so-good??
