Yesterday the kids and I ate dinner at the bowling alley on post with some friends. Actually, we went to our weekly outing at the Rhinelander, the convention center on post. But we left after basically being booted out by a formal function that was going on.
The girls had a first….a new milestone that came way before I was expecting it at the Bowling Alley.
No, it wasn’t their first bowling experience. They had it when we went to the bowling alley for Halloween. In fact, MC was quite confused as to why we were going to the bowling alley without her Jester costume.
After we ate our dinner, I let the girls play some video games with the older kids that were with us. They were excited about getting to drive the car that went with the racing game. I was excited to have time to visit with my girlfriends.
As I was talking, EA came over to me and said words that I was totally not expecting to hear for a long time. A very long time.
She said, “Mommy, can I have some money?”
Yes, that’s the milestone….it was the very first time my children have asked for money. I joked with my friends that it’s all downhill from here.
Bless her heart, though, she only took one of the two dollars I handed her.
I guess she was saving the other for her sister who came over just a few minutes later.
MC came over and says the exact same thing, “Mommy, can I have some money?”
I gave her the other dollar and she went off to play.
Only MC apparently likes this money thing…she came back again and asked for more.
I only had two dollars in my pocket. So, I said, “No, that’s all I have. One dollar is enough. That’s all the money.”
Well, apparently that answer just wasn’t good enough.
She points over to my friend sitting beside me and innocently asks, “Well, can I have some of Amy’s money”.
I guess once they get a taste of the good stuff, there’s no turning back!

Good times, Good times. I’m not quite sure when they get to the point of understanding they should not ask other mom’s for money too 🙂

very cute story!
my girls definitely get that money pays for things and they know that Daddy has to go to work so that he can give money to mommy. We’re working on explaining that we can’t buy everything we want even though mommy has a credit card. E&I also love to sit in those cars, it would be all over if I ever gave them money to play. A girl friend got us to go with her one day to Chuckee Cheese – the girls had a blast, and have asked to go again – I keep avoiding it like the plague.
