I have just started reading a great book about Biblical Motherhood called “The Mission of Motherhood“. It is written by Sally Clarkson who must be the best mother of all time.
I read this when the girls were babies and have recently been thinking about the book a lot. So, I went down to the basement and brought it back up to reread.
I love the perspective of motherhood that is given in this book. I love the way that Sally Clarkson writes about making mothering your ministry. That is what I am striving to do.
I desire to be loving and gentle with my children but sometimes the demands of the day leave me harried and worn.
Sometimes I need a fresh look at what I sincerely believe I have been called to do…no, not just been called to do, but been called to be.
Here are some of my favorite quotes from the first chapter:
“Mommy! You know what? When I was growing inside your tummy, I always hoped and hoped that when I came out, I would have a mommy just like you who would take care of me when I was sick and tell me Joy stories!”
(this is a quote from Sally’s daughter as she was being comforted by her mother during a bout with asthma)“What happened was that my tiny baby girl arrived and took my life completely by storm.”
“And saying yes to the mission of motherhood has certainly not meant giving up my ministry. To a great extent, it is my ministry.”
“I’ve learned that my influence on my children is limited only by the smallness of my dreams and my lack of commitment to the Lord and his purposes.”
“How thankful I am that God showed me his path so that I can relax in each stage of childhood and find joy in my moments with my sweet ones, knowing that in my acceptance of his call, my children can rest in the peace and security of my commitment to them.”
I am so excited about reading through this book again and learning from such wise words.
My prayer is that I will be changed by it. That it will challenge me to change my parenting, to become more of what God wants me to be as I am in the throes of life wiht three preschoolers. That I will cherish every moment that I have with them. And that I will learn to relax in each stage of childhood and find joy in my moments with them.

What a great book review. I will have to look this book up, sounds like a good one. I too want to cherish each moment with my children and be intentional in my mothering, for the glory of our Lord.
