One practice that I have come to cherish over the last several years is that of selecting “one little word” to be my focus for the year ahead. This practice helps to guide me along with giving me a place to focus my attention throughout each year.
It funny how I begin to get a sense of what the next year’s word will be as the current year is coming to an end. I decided on my One Little Word for 2023 several weeks ago and I am excited for what this word will come to mean to me over the next year.
My One Little Word for 2023 is HOME!
I chose this word for various reasons…
1. I am feeling a calling to “come home” to myself and the things that I love. I am blogging more, taking more photos, and returning to my creative hobby of scrapbooking. I had to smile when I saw that the Month of Challenges this year at The Lilypad (my digital scrapbooking home) is coming home. It was the confirmation and push I needed to commit to participating in this month’s challenge.
2. I really struggle with the winter in Germany. I am embracing it this year by intentionally hibernating in my home this winter. I am limiting the number of activities I’m committing to outside our home. I am also leaning in to cozy, comforting hobbies such as working on puzzles and reading books throughout the winter.
3. In preparation for our move home to El Paso this summer, I will be decluttering our home here. This will be a major focus for the first quarter of this year.
4. Finding, buying, and settling into a HOME in El Paso is the biggest, most exciting thing that I will be doing this year. I want to fully embrace this entire process.
5. The second half of the year will be focused on truly making the house we find a comforting home for our family.
6. It will also be focused on making El Paso our home as we find our community there.
Overall, this year my focus will be on HOME–
coming home to myself,
being at peace in my home through the winter,
finding a home in El Paso,
and settling into that home.
I am looking forward to how a focus on HOME is going to shape my year. I’m looking forward to embracing every bit of it!
